FISHING IN STYLE!!!

I have been fishing since I was about 6 and the flying cloud is by far one of my MOST favorite boats. The crew is great and my brother and I love JR., he is VERY nice. We have been out in Montauk now for a week and we won the pool every day, I won it once. It is amazing to be out here every day on the Flying Cloud. Fred E. Bird sure finds the right spots for HUGE fluke. I would go on the Flying Cloud every day if I can... I have a blast catching all of these fish. I catch Fluke, sea bass, porgys, and lots of fun!

I would insist anyone nomatter what age to go on this awesome, FUN filled, lots of fish, cool, and memorable time boat!! Its sooooo worth going out to Montauk to go on the flying Cloud were you always catch the big one!!!

We always have alot of luck on the Flying Cloud and I hope I can see JR., and everyone else again.

See you next time on the Flying Cloud.

FISH ON.....Get the net!!!!!

My family and I had the best time fishing on the Flying Cloud. Flying Cloud is just

one of many charter boats that offer half day fishing trips, but I chose Flying Cloud because they have a website and they responded to my inquiry email promptly.

The Flying Cloud goes out twice a day* and it's $45/person. All tackle and bait is included. We decided to go on the afternoon fishing trip; there were three other

small groups on the boat with us but it wasn't crowded at all. Since only three out

of our group of four was planning to fish, they were nice enough to only charge us

for three people. If you're a first timer at fishing make sure you let them know and someone will give you a crash course when you get on the boat, i.e. how to bait

your hook and how to properly drop your line into the sea until the sinker hits the bottom. The Flying Cloud crew was really great. Capt. Fred Bird drove the boat and took charge of when and where to move spots**. He mostly stayed up above,

"DJ-ing" our fishing trip soundtrack and telling us funny stories while we fished.

Capt. Neil Nixon was really a pleasure to have in charge. He was very perceptive in

his supervising, chatting with the chattier guests on the boat and always ready with the net when someone was reeling in a big one. I appreciated the fact that he let us learn from experience, offering handy tips each time he walked by and only stepping

in when we needed help. Capt. Neil also scales and guts the fish that are caught.

Some people requested their fish filleted, but we opted to have the bass my sister caught whole. It was turned into Chinese-style steamed bass and fish head stew the next day. Delicious!

A couple tips:

1. Even if it's overcast (which it was) you can still get sunburned

(which I did) so remember to put on sunblock!

2. If you're prone to seasickness,

pack some dramamine in case you need it and don't eat too much before the trip. I started to feel sick after the boat stopped for the first time and it lasted almost an

hour before it went away.

3. Bring rags because things will get messy. The pro

fishers on board all knew this.

4. Pack some snacks. They sell some on board but it's

all overpriced (e.g. $2 for a can of soda).

5. Bring your camera! If you catch a fish you'll definitely want a picture of the

moment. Plus, you'll have a great view of the Montauk Point Lighthouse from the

boat.

Despite getting sunburned and seasick for a part of the time, this was easily my favorite part of our Montauk vacation. Thank you Flying Cloud crew!

*8AM - 12PM and 1PM - 5PM**We moved spots about 5 times, either after someone caught a fish or if we were in a spot for a long time without catching something.

Dear Captain Fred,

Our son Greg Tuthill and his friend Hank went out to Montalk two weeks ago to participate in a triathlon and went fishing on the Flying Cloud Sunday afternoon.

They were very excited about what a wonderful time they had.

Greg said it was the best party boat fishing experience that he has ever had. They were not only impressed with you putting them on fish right away but also

exclaimed how wonderful the service is with your crew being friendly, courteous

and very helpful to seasoned anglers and beginners alike.

He is now telling all of his friends in New York and New Jersey that it is a trip they must take.

I was mate on the Jigger II for Captain Howie Carroll Sr. from 1952 thruogh the

1956 season and earned my captain's license at the age of 18.

I remember you coming out on the Jigger with Doc Carter, Jimmie and June and all those wonderful people. In fact I still have a photo you took of me steering the boat

to S.W. Ledge.

For the past 15 years, I have been running light tackle and fly fishing charters in

San Diego, California and most reacently Fort Myers, Florida.

It is wondrful to see that you are running your third Flying Cloud and providing such

a great service to the sport fishing industry.

Keep up the good work....your customers I know appreciate it.

Best of everything,

Captain Norm Tuthill

For over 20 years now I have made the arduous trek from Philadelphia to Montauk every summer to experience some of the best fishing on the East Coast.

And while I have fished most of the boats on the dock, there is no one I trust more than Capt Bird and Capt Neil to not only find the fish, but provide a relaxed, accommodating voyage.

Maybe it’s the smooth jazz Capt Bird fills the air with, or maybe it’s

Capt Neil’s boundless fishing knowledge and infectious good mood, either way,

this is the only way to truly experience a day of fishing in Montauk.

As I now prepare to take my twin 12 year old boys up for their first trip, I know they are in good hands.

See ya soon, FISH ON!!!

About 20 years ago I didn't know too much about Montauk.

When I got to the dock I walked onto the Cloud  because the Viking was crowded

and you had to camp out on the dock to get on the Lazybones.

In 20 years I have never regretted that decision.

Captain Bird would hook me up with doormat fluke and giant porgies.

I even became friends with the kid who was the second mate Junior who was kept hopping for the whole trip.

Well now Junior is Captain Neil and he has netted giant fluke and high fived me

more times than I could remember.

Captain Bird always found the fish and the jazz was just a bonus.  I am coming out

to Montauk in July to load up on memories and doormats on the Flying Cloud.

DO EITHER OF YOU GUYS REMEMBER ME. MY NAME IS BARRY  I HAVE PARKINSONS AND MY WIFE AND LITTLE GIRL ALWAYS MET ME AT THE DOCK

What a memorable day in Montauk!!

We boarded the Flying Cloud with 4 adults and 8 children last week with low expectations as we were looking for something to do on a cloudy day.

Your boat and crew were amazing!!

Captain Neil and the two other crew were so wonderful and patient with the

children, it seemed like they were on a field trip!!  They all learned so much about

the many different kinds of fish that were caught on the boat thanks to Capt. Neil.  He even held the attention of my 4 year old!!!

We all can't stop talking about how great it was on the Flying Cloud and I know we will all remember it for a lifetime.

We will definitely be back next July!!!

My wife and I have sailed and fished on the Flying Cloud for over 8 years.

We watched the mate Junior go from a kid to a man and Capt.

Capt.

Fred Bird keeps us coming back. His music, jazz and knowledge of the waters are next to none. Now Capt. Neil keeps you interested, is more than friendly and is open and honest.

We will never fish with another ship and we feel anyone that does will only get a commercial answer instead of a memorable fishing trip that will have you yearning

to go out again and again.

Keep up the good work Capt. Fred and Neil and we will keep fishing the Flying Cloud for years to come!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been fishing with you guys since I was 10 years old. I'm now 23 and still can't get enough!

Captain Fred is a man who knows Long Island waters and does a great job at finding the fish!

Captain Neil has been a great addition to the boat now for many years, making everyone feel right at home and doing an all around job well done!

I am looking forward to another great fluke season with the Flying Cloud!
